And just like that, spring is finally on our doorstep! After what feels like a particularly long winter, we’re excited to welcome not only longer days and more sunshine but also the opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate our spaces—including our digital ones!
While spring is traditionally a time for "spring cleaning" and decluttering in our homes, in today's digital age, our virtual environments are equally deserving of our attention.
One of the most common obstacles that hold people back from getting organized is knowing where to start. This uncertainty can be overwhelming, which often prevents people from beginning at all. When I work with clients in their homes, the first thing we do is assess which spaces would most benefit from decluttering and organizing. These are typically the areas that get used the most, like kitchens or closets, and they become our first priority.
The same principle can apply to your digital spaces. Between our smartphone apps, computer files, email inbox, and home gadgets, the list of digital spaces that may need organizing can quickly add up! Digital clutter can be just as overwhelming as physical mess, affecting productivity and mental well-being.
Use This Checklist as a Guide—Not a To-Do List
It’s important to remember that digital decluttering doesn’t have to happen overnight. Tackling everything on the checklist all at once can be time-consuming and quickly become overwhelming. Instead, we recommend using this checklist as a guide and setting aside small chunks of time to work through a few items at a time.
Whether you dedicate 15 minutes a day to clearing out old emails or set aside an hour each weekend to organize your photos, progress—no matter how small—adds up! The key is to approach digital decluttering in a way that feels manageable and sustainable for you.
