Five Tips to Avoid a "Pack Attack"

Updated: Jul 13, 2019

According to a recent vacation survey, nearly two-thirds of the 2,000 Americans surveyed admitted to having difficulty packing for a trip. And when it comes to top travel stresses, “packing” comes in at number two; just behind “airport security”. No surprise, right?

Packing requires planning, anticipating what your family wants to wear seven days from now, and the skills necessary to condense all your necessities in a bag that weighs less than 50 pounds.

So while all this may seem daunting, a little bit of preparation goes a long way. Here are some tips to ease the stress:

  1. Make a list. Do this a couple of weeks in advance. Make the list for each family member traveling.

  2. Roll, don’t fold! Tightly rolling your clothes will prove to not only give you more space in your bag, but will keep wrinkles to a minimum.

  3. Split up your clothing between bags. I learned this tip the hard way when my husbands bag made it to our honeymoon destination but mine didn’t!

  4. Keep important travel documents, valuables, and medications in your carry-on to avoid it getting lost by the airline.

  5. Bring large plastic bags with you for dirty laundry. This will help keep them separate from clean items upon return.
